Westlake Waves Swim Club
PRACTICE GROUPS
Here are the practice groups for the Waves this year.  Each group can change slightly depending on the great kids that fit into each group.  The goal is to challenge each swimmer appropriate to their ability in a fun, friendly, educational environment.  All of the groups have the same outcome, everyone improves.

Practices should be similar to school, regular consistent attendance, and don’t be late.
Participation in meets is also required, generally at least 1-2 meets per month and all championship meets you qualify for should be in your schedule.  There are usually numerous opportunities, as in any sport the competition is focus of the team and very motivating for the swimmers.

The Waves ask that all swimmers commit to participate in all dual meets, Championship Meets, and at least half of all other meets they qualify to Swim.

Green & White swimmers – 1 hour practice – 2-3 times per week

The Green group swimmers are new and beginning swimmers of
around elementary school age.  The focus on this group is on the
technique and fun of competitive swimming.

The White group swimmers are more experienced younger swimmers who need a little more challenge to their practices.  The age range is from elementary and middle school.  The goals of this group are learning the fundamentals of the strokes, having fun racing, and adding more conditioning work.

The Bronze group – 1 ½ hour practice – around 3 times per week
The Bronze group is made up of younger fast, experienced swimmers and newer older swimmers.  The age range is from elementary and middle school.  The goals of this group are again learning the fundamentals of the strokes, having fun racing, and adding more conditioning work in a longer practice.

The Silver group – 2 hour practice + some dryland weights –
3 or more times per week average
The silver group swimmers are good middle school swimmers and high school swimmers.  The goals of this group are refinement of the strokes, climbing the ladder of competition, and rigorous conditioning.

The Gold group – 2 hour practice + regular dryland weights –
4 or more times per week average
The Gold group swimmers are all highly motivated, fast and experienced swimmers looking for the gold medal, the brass ring, the next mountain to climb.  They can be middle school swimmers and high school swimmers.  The goals of this group are refinement of the strokes, climbing the ladder of competition, and rigorous conditioning.  You must be dedicated to practices, dryland, and meets. The commitment required, depth of training and level of achievement has risen every year for the team this year will not be any different with the Gold group leading the way.
