GREEN and WHITE Group (Proudly also called the "Little Waves")

The Green and White Group will be the great way to get fast in the water for elementary school age swimmers and those just starting in the sport to get their "feet wet" so to speak.  The goals of the Green and White Team are to have elementary school, beginning swimmers, start (or continue) the process of learning competitive swimming techniques, develop the strength and conditioning that will help them become successful swimmers, and most importantly, engage them in the fun and excitement of racing in the pool.  The swimmers will be in great physical shape, become an excellent, top swimmer of their age, and have an enjoyable time becoming a superb athlete.

The Green Team will be younger and newer swimmers learning the basics of all 4 strokes and beginning their conditioning to be competitive swimmers.

The White Team will be elementary school and 5th and 6th grade swimmers and some beginner older swimmers who have already swam for a while and are looking for increased workouts and more challenges as they continue to grow in the sport

Most of the USA Swimming meets the Waves attend have 8 and under and 9-10 age group competitions, some even have 6 and 7 year old races.  Throughout the season there are 5 or 6 developmental meets designed for the G & W swimmers, culminating in the 8 and under Championships, the Bronze Championships in February or the Lake Erie Gold Championships or Silver Championships in March. All of the meets are highly encouraged. The G & W team will really get charged up when they race, it is the most fun and excitement in friendly swimming competitions. The swim meets build the desire to push for higher goals and feed the swimmers self-esteem. We encourage and strive to have every swimmer swim fast enough to win races, but most importantly, to improve themselves.

The practices will be very instructional and challenging for these beginning swimmers but with a lot of fun and games to keep them coming back for more.  It is a lot of hard work, but it has lots of benefits.  The best way to have your son or daughter enjoy the sport of swimming is to bring a friend or two, everything is more fun with a friend.

One of our goals is to have younger swimmers continue swimming after they are 13-14 years old. Statistics show that up to 80% of children stop competing in any sport after the age of 14, we would like to try to beat the odds. We don't want 8, 10, 12 or 14 to be the top (or end) of a child's swimming career.  It helps a great deal for them to be established in the sport and properly trained by the time they get older, and their own self motivation takes over.  Success can be defined as when preparation meets opportunity.

The Waves coaches try to approach each swimmer based on their abilities and progress with a strong consideration to their age and development. If a swimmer is appropriate for the Green and White Team, or the regular Waves, practices will be evaluated by the Waves coaches and could change throughout the season.
